Study Guide for the Final Exam: English 102-25 for May 12, 1 p.m.

Bring a blue book or seven sheets of loose-leaf paper, and a pen or pencil.
You will get a choice of answering essay questions on 2 of the following three subjects:

Smoke Signals and "This Is What It Means To Say Phoenix, Arizona"
Slam Poetry
Bowling For Columbine

Review your notes, although the question will ask you to articulate on the spot rather than fill in details. You will be arguing a point of view based on the question and any handouts I supply.
I will ask you to respond to a poem, or an article or interview that deals with the three subjects.

You will be expected to write a short 2 page double spaced essay for both questions
Your grade (10% of course grade) will depend on the content, organization, and while grammar and editing will have a minimal effect on the grade, the essay must read clearly.

Your grade will be determined by the quality of both essays individually and added to a scale of 100.

46-50: Well-developed, well-articulated and minimal mechanical errors
41-45: good effort, good organizational skills, lacks development in key areas, contains several mechanical errors
35-40: Shows satisfactory effort and some of the basic concerns are addressed, lacks organization, although demonstrates good argumentation. Contains numerous flaws
30-34: meets minimum structural criteria, demonstrates a response to question, but lacks organization, argumentation, or articulation of the question.
29 or lower: Clearly not passing, essay shows lack of development and is lacking minimum standards due to unsatisfactory effort or lack of basic skills

English students, I have created this page for your convenience. I will post assignments and handouts here. You can cut and paste and print them out. You should scroll down using the dates of our current semester. There will also be a copy of the syllabus posted early. Remember, if you are absent, you should call a classmate to find out what you missed that day. You are responsible for all assignments.
